Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information Mary Teacher collects, why, who can see it, and what choices you have. Mary Teacher is a small online English-teaching service run by one teacher. We collect only what we need to teach and to manage lessons. Many of our students are children, so please read the section “Children”.
1. Who is responsible
The data controller is Mary Teacher, the teacher who runs this website (“we”, “us”). You can reach us through the contact details on the home page.
2. What we collect
We collect this information from you directly, through the sign-up form, bookings, payment steps and homework uploads on this website:
- Account details: your name, email address, WhatsApp number and a password. We never see your password; our login provider stores it in encrypted (hashed) form.
- Lessons: the lessons you book, their times, whether a lesson took place, was cancelled or was missed, and your lesson-credit balance and history.
- Payments: your orders, the amounts and the receipt (bank-transfer slip) you upload. A receipt can show your name and bank details; we use it only to confirm your payment. We never ask for card numbers: payments are bank transfers made outside this website.
- Learning materials and homework: files, notes and links your teacher adds for a lesson, and the text, files or audio you send as homework, together with the teacher’s feedback.
- Messages: emails and notifications about your bookings, payments and homework.
- Technical data: small cookies that keep you signed in and remember your language, and routine server logs kept by our hosting provider for security.
We do not collect sensitive information such as health or religion, identity-card numbers, your location or card numbers. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
3. Why we use your information
- To provide lessons and run your account (this is necessary to provide the service you asked for).
- To contact you about bookings, cancellations, payments and homework.
- To confirm payments and keep accounting records (legal obligations and our legitimate interest).
- To keep the website secure and prevent misuse (our legitimate interest).
- To show a review on this website, only with your permission (or your parent’s or guardian’s permission for a child).
We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.
4. Children
Many of our students are under 18. A child should create an account together with a parent or guardian, using the parent’s email address and WhatsApp number where possible. By registering a child, the parent or guardian confirms that they accept this policy on the child’s behalf.
- We collect only what is needed for lessons.
- Children have no public profiles and cannot message other students. We send no marketing to children.
- Reviews are published only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission, using a first name only and without photos.
- Lessons are not recorded unless the student or parent is told in advance and agrees.
- Parents and guardians can ask to see, correct or delete their child’s information at any time.
6. Transfers to other countries
These providers may store or process information in countries other than yours, for example in the European Union or the United States. We choose providers that protect data with contracts and security measures. By using the service, you (or your parent or guardian) accept these transfers where the law requires your consent.
7. How long we keep it
- Account and lesson information: while your account is active. Accounts with no activity for 24 months may be deleted or anonymised.
- Payment receipts and order records: as long as the accounting and tax rules that apply to us require.
- Homework and learning materials: until you ask us to delete them or your account is deleted.
You can ask us to delete your account and information at any time (see Section 9).
8. Security
Connections to the website use HTTPS. Passwords are stored in encrypted form by our login provider. Receipts and homework files are stored privately and opened only through short-lived links; only the teacher, and you for your own files, can open them. No system is perfectly secure. If a security incident affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
9. Your rights
Under Turkish data protection law (KVKK, Law No. 6698, Article 11) and, where it applies, the GDPR, you can:
- find out whether we process your information and ask what we hold;
- get a copy and ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your information, or to limit or stop using it;
- take your information to another service, where this right applies;
- withdraw a permission you gave (for example for a published review) at any time;
- complain to the data protection authority (in Türkiye: the Personal Data Protection Board, KVKK).
To use a right, contact us. We answer within 30 days. We may first need to confirm who you are; for a child we deal with the parent or guardian. You can reach us through the contact details on the home page.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and we will email registered users about important changes.
